On 26th January 1950 India's constitution was officially declared and Dr Rajendra Prasad was declared as the first president of Republic India. Since then 26th January is celebrated as the greatest festival of the country.
While it is celebrated with great vigor across all states and headquarters but its epicenter lies in the capital of India, New Delhi.
The day's celebrations starts with Prime Minister laying wreath at the "AMAR JYOTI" which is a memorial to unknown soldiers
The festivities starts on a grand scale by the Republic Day parade. Before the procession begins The president hoists the national flag and then bravery awards are distributed to the selected officers of the armed forces. Parade starts with contigents from Army, Navy and Air force marching past the president.
The price of tickets for theRepublic Day Parade on January 26, 2012 will beRs.300 and Rs.150 for reserved seats and Rs.50 and Rs.10 for unreserved seats. The tickets for the Beating Retreat Ceremony (Full Dress Rehearsal) on January 28, 2012 will be in the category of Rs.50 and Rs.20 respectively and will not have reserved seats.
The non-department sale counters have been set up for this purpose at ITDC Travel Counters at Ashok and Janpath Hotels, DTDC Counters at Coffee Home, Baba Kharag Singh Marg and Food and Craft Bazar, DilliHaat, opposite INA Market and Shri Gandhi Ashram, ChandniChowk. Tickets at these counters will be available only on working days.
Tickets will also be available at nine Departmental Sale Counters on all days between 1000 - 1730 hrs (without lunch break). These counters are located at North Block round about, South Block round about, PragatiMaidan (Gate No. 1, Bhairon Road), JantarMantar (Main Gate), ShastriBhawan (near Gate No. 1), India Gate (near Jamnagar House), Red Fort (near police picket) Government of India Tourist Office, 88, Janpath (Sunday closed) and Parliament House (Reception Office). The tickets at Parliament House Reception will be available from January 19 to January 28, 2012 from 1100 hrs to 1600 hrs.
The Sale Counters at JantarMantar, South Block round about, ShashtriBhawan (near Gate No. 1) and India Gate will function from 1000 hrs to 1930 hrs from January 23 to January 25, 2012.

The parade also includes the colorful floats from each of India's states.These floats depict the culture and tradition of different states.Each caravan has a unique theme which showcase the cultural diversity of India.
Helicopters from Armed forces then fly past the parade area and shover flowers on the audience. The armed force personnel also showcase motorcycle rides. The Army corps holds the guiness book of World Record for their fantastic motorcycle stunts that amaze the viewers of Republic day.
The most exciting and fascinating part of the ceremony lies in the fly-past by Indian Air force jets symbolically saluting the president.
